Welcome aboard. As president or chair, your surface area is Board Management: the roster, agendas, packets, resolutions, and the governance calendar. Your organization's administrator sends you an invite by email; everything below starts from accepting it. Inside the apps you will also find an interactive Getting Started checklist tailored to your role at the top of the sidebar; this page is the map, that checklist is the turn-by-turn.

Have handy: your board roster with emails and terms, your bylaws, and the dates of your next two meetings.

Part 1. Your first week

1.1
Accept your invite and sign in. Open Board Management and find the role-tailored Getting Started checklist at the top of the sidebar.Done when: you can sign in and the checklist greets you by role.
1.2
Verify the roster. Confirm every member, officer role, email, and term date is right; fix what is not.Done when: the roster matches reality, because packets and sign-offs go to these addresses.

Read the governance calendar. Review the annual items already tracked in the Compliance Tracker (policy review, disclosures, elections, filings).Done when: you know what the year asks of the board, with dates.

Skim the adopted policies in the Document Library: conflict of interest, whistleblower, document retention, bylaws.Done when: you know what exists, what is missing, and what is stale.

Part 2. Your first month

2.1
Build your first agenda and board packet. Use the agenda tools and the packet compiler, which can pull real program impact and financial figures rather than placeholders.Done when: a packet goes out before the meeting, not at it.
2.2
Run a resolution through e-sign. Take one real decision through the Resolutions workflow: draft, send to every director, collect signatures.Done when: the adopted resolution files itself into the Document Library with a full audit trail.

Collect this year’s conflict of interest disclosures from every member, if not already done.Done when: every member has a signed disclosure on file.

Set the meeting cadence. Put the year’s meetings on the calendar and confirm who records minutes (your secretary’s checklist covers their side).Done when: every meeting has a date, an owner for the agenda, and an owner for the minutes.

Part 3. Your rhythm

3.1
Before each meeting: agenda out a week ahead, packet compiled with real numbers.Done when: directors arrive prepared; the meeting is deliberation, not narration.
3.2
After each meeting: minutes approved, decisions that need signatures routed through Resolutions.Done when: nothing decided exists only in memory.
3.3
Annually: run the executive director’s evaluation (the chair-led ED Evaluation workflow, with the year-round notes card), policy review, and officer elections per your bylaws.Done when: each has a date and an owner in the tracker.
3.4
Watch the board’s health. Terms expiring, disclosures missing, credentials lapsing all surface in the app; act on them before they are problems.Done when: you are never surprised by an expired term or a missing signature.
